Clubs and Societies

Bantry has a diverse range of Clubs and societies providing a variety of activities for any one in the area. Sports stars including Graham Canty ,Captain of the Cork senior football team, and Keith Cronin 2009 British rally Champion are but a few on a long list of local hero’s.
The famous Bantry Blues are one of the strongest GAA clubs in the region with football being played at all levels. While West Cork would not be considered a stronghold of Hurling, the Blues are making efforts to build teams at underage and junior levels.
The Bantry Longboat, crewed by members of Bantry rowing club and Sailing club, is the flagship of water sport in Bantry. Representing Ireland all over the world the local crews have gained international  acclaim by winning the prestigious Atlantic Challenge contest on many occasions.

One of the more unique sports in west Cork is road Bowling, and on most Sundays or summer evenings this sport explains what appears to be large crowds of people wandering around the roads without purpose. If you happen across such a crowd do not be alarmed, it is called a Scór (A game of Road Bowling).

Societies include everything from a Bridge club to Macra na Feirme as can been seen in the list below.
