Pakistan Flood Appeal-Bantry Lions Club

On Friday August 27, the Bantry Bay Lions, in cooperation with members of the ICA and Defibrillator groups, conducted a collection in Bantry for the Pakistan Flood Appeal. A total of €4,045.00 was collected, an astonishing amount considering the current economic climate.

Once again, the people of Bantry and the surrounding area have shown their generosity in responding to a tragedy.

This money has been sent to Lions Clubs International and, together with donations from the other 117 Lions Clubs in Ireland, will be used to purchase water purification tablets which have been secured at a very reasonable price.

No money will be sent to Pakistan.

Each box of 32,000 tablets costs approximately €208 and will provide 70,000 gallons of drinkable water.  This means that Bantry has contributed enough money to purify over 1.36 million gallons of water, a fantastic achievement.

The Lions Club will arrange shipment from source in Wexford to Manchester and onward to Karachi.

Pakistan International Airways will airfreight the tablets from Manchester for free with only a nominal airport handling charge involved. The shipment will be met by members of Lions Clubs in Pakistan for distribution.
