 Bantry is a the perfect choice for fishing and angling in West Cork.  With clear and pristine waters in Bantry Bay it is ideal for fishing.  Not far from Bantry Bay, we have a freshwater lake which is suitable for fishing from the roadside.

Bantry Bay

Fishing in Bantry Bay has alot to offer the shore and boating anglers alike.  It has plenty of shelter regardless of the weather and shore marks are plentiful.

The Inner Harbour is abundant with Dog Fish, Bull Huss, Thorny Back Ray and Skate.  Conger Eel roam freely among the rocky shores and can grow to 40lbs and more inshore.

Pollock, Wrasse, Coalfish, Codling, and Cod in season can be caught.  Most of the year around and Bass patrol the shallows looking to pick the unsuspecting Sand Eel or Mackeral.

Smooth Hounds and Tope can be caught a little farther out the bay along with Skate and Monkfish if you are lucky.  Ling will be found with live or dead baits and Cod of good size are secured with baits like Squid and Peeler Crab.

Fishing Permits

Permits are available from Maxol Petrol Station, The Quay, Bantry and are on sale from 01 April until 30 September.  Each daily fishing permit cost approx €20 per adult and €10 for OAPs and under 16yrs.

Lough Bofinne

Lough Bofinne is a 25 acre, clear water lake, 3 miles east from Bantry. A unique location, because two roads fringe 75% of the lake’s margin, creating exceptional shore angling facilities.

Boats are available if required. An excellent stock of Rainbow Trout and some Brown Trout are present, and the lake is restocked regularly with adult Rainbow Trout to maintain a high stock density.  Occasional Pike, Perch, Eels and Rudd are also present.  Successful angling methods include worms with a float artificial flies or small spinners.  Find out more about Lough Bofinne
